Yoga Challenge Day#3

Yoga Challenge Day#3

I've decided that it was time to stop putting my foot partially in the water as far as my yoga practice is concerned. Since the big move I've been having sporadic sessions that have lead to a rollercoaster of emotions and erradic thoughts, but i digress.

Today was day three of my thirty day challenge. I'm primarily performing the sun salutation along with a series of floor asanas to ease myself back into the scheme of things. It's always easy the first three weeks and then by the fourth i'm consumed with work, family and generally life. So i figured that by posting my daily progress it will give me the push i need to make it past the fourth week and i just might inspire some folks along the way.

Here's to taking this one day at a time.

Namaste.

Morning Meditation: Volume 7

Morning Meditation: Volume 7

Returning to the Basics

When you feel that you have run amuck a golden rule is to always return to the basics. It’s probably been told to us time and time again no matter what it’s in relation to. It’s merely a truism of life that gets kicked around and trampled upon and tossed in the trash until we can fish it out again.

Most recently I have moved and have been finding it terribly difficult to fall back into a comfortable schedule for my practices. A normal meditation session would consist of me waking early and I would sit peacefully in the quiet for no more than three to five minutes.  These days I fight myself and either wound up waking up entirely too early or not enough.

One morning I sprung up and had to remind myself that it was time to go back. Yes, it was time to return to an era where I woke up with sun and got right to my practice. This involves force feeding the brain the notions that this is painless and oh, so good for you. The way back for me was merely asking myself what is preventing you from sitting. You can afford to devote three minutes to yourself. This was highly effective and the next morning when I woke I sat for a full three minutes feeling fabulous when I was done.

As the holiday season approaches it’s important to not get sucked in and bombarded with the emotional rollercoaster it provides. I encourage each and every one of you to ask of yourselves to devote some time that solely belongs to you. All the best during the holiday season.

Be Safe and Travel Well

Asana In The Spotlight: Vol. 4

Asana In The Spotlight: Vol. 4

Bridge Pose also known as the chakra asana is the pose of the month.. When done properly this asana will provide an extreme stretch to the spine, open up tight shoulders and back and also strengthen the arms. I’ve begun to anticipate this pose during my practice because of the wonderful benefits. One should expect to remain in this posture for a minimum of three minutes. Or, you may perform a repetition of three one minute stints depending upon your abilities. The body receives such a rush when you are lying quietly in savasana afterwards.
