Playwright In The Spotlight

I remember it as if it were yesterday. I was nine years old and trapped indoors on a dreary, rainy, Sunday morning. As I turned the dial on the television set (yes, I am that old) I landed on a play being featured on Channel 13 WNET in New York. It was A Raisin In The Sun and i was in awe at the people performing on stage. Not only did they look like me but the story was so powerful. That morning I sat down and watched all two and a half hours of the performance starring Ester Rolle, and Danny Glover. That's when I knew it -- I was in love.

Thank you Ms. Hansberry and the world of playwrights istruly  at a loss without your contributions on race, social, and political injustice. Thank you, thank you, thank you for showing me the path.
